On December 2nd-3rd, FFA members put on an exciting leadership based challenge course to show middle school students how leadership is directly tied into FFA. FFA activities like being on the officer team or any CDE team directly relate to leadership. Leadership is a key aspect in FFA and will help students in their futures. The activities that were led helped them learn about specific parts of leadership such as communication, paitences, cooperation and much much more.
The officers, junior officers and other chapter leaders helped out with the challenging activities, including The Human Knot, A-Frame Walk, Building Blind, Pipeline, Tanks, and Minefield. The huge 8-foot tall A-Frame was a key attraction; the students had to use teamwork and communication to walk the frame from one side of the mats to the other by ropes. “It was fun, exciting, and the kids seemed to really enjoy it,” said freshmen Kaylee Terry, who helped run the A-Frame station.
This two day activity gave the middle schoolers an opportunity to learn about leadership as well as what FFA is like: how much fun it can be, the activities involved, and to see what FFA has to offer. The first ever middle school leadership challange was a great success and caught the attention of a lot of the students. Sutherlin FFA hopes to make this an annual event.
