Sutherlin FFA

    This year District Sales were held at Glide High School on Friday, December 2nd.In this CDE all the participants were working their sales skills by taking orders, convincing customers to buy their product, and creating advertisments.In a fantastic effort Sutherlin was able to place 1st in both beginning and advanced!

District Rituals were held at Myrtle Point on Wednesday, November 9th. Sutherlin made a great showing bringing home a red and a blue banner. The Sutherlin beginning team took first while the advanced team took second. 

The top individuals for beginning were:  Nicole Leatherwood (1st place president), Gabby Cornelia (1st place vice president), Cheyenne Cunningham (1st place secretary), Kelsey Maillet (1st place reporter), and Evelyn Beattie (1st place sentinel).

Advanced: Jerry Risk (3rd place president), Lana Chamberlain (3rd place vice president), Tiffany Rosemeyer (1st place secretary), Kaylee Terry (2nd place treasurer), Kylee Carson (3rd place reporter), and Andrew Beattie (3rd place sentinel).

The State FFA Soils Career Development Event was held in Sutherlin October 11, with 23 teams from across the state participating.  Sutherlin FFA teams placed 5th in the A Division and 4th in the B Division - a very good showing.  Well done to Jerry Risk (10th High Individual), Chris Clark, Aaron Davis, Juan Vazquez, Brianna Kats, Christina Moody, Ambrose Brower, and Trevor Taylor.  Also, congrats to Oakland for their 4th Place state finish!

Just the week before the Umpqua District Soils CDE was held in Elkton, with nearly 100 students and 6 schools participating. Sutherlin FFA results are below (students in bold); Sutherlin had 19 total students competing, with 16 of them placing in their respective top ten individual results.

Many Sutherlin FFA members volunteered to help with the Umpqua Half-Iron over Labor Day Weekend.  Good job to Andrew Beattie, Jerry Risk, Carlos Vazquez, Lana Chamberlain, Christy Chamberlain, and Caylin Hobgood for serving dinner Friday, and to Cody Ferguson, Alex Stanley, Lindsay Needham, Anjelica Badillo, Tiffani Rosemeyer, Becca Mack, Bethany Spelgatti, Caylin Hobgood, and all the Alumni who helped during the race on Saturday.  Well done!
