Viticulturist.  Sounds like a funny word, until a few days ago I had never heard of it. A viticulturist is a person that works with vineyards and grapes. This is a great job it you like working out doors and have an interest in plants, mostly fruit.

You may ask what a viticulturist does, if you have this job you work with wines, grapes other grape products and vineyards. With this job you will work outside, in a lab, and even in an office.

Some of the jobs you could have well being a viticulturist would be watering and fertilizing the vines, transporting/transplanting new vines, giving tours of the vineyard you work at, and some times traveling to other vineyards.

I you are some one that enjoys being outdoors and working with plants, or has interesting horticulture or botany this could be a job for you. If you would like to be a viticulturist you would need a degree in either horticulture or viticulture.

You could go to Oregon State University to get a four-year degree in this field, as for high school classes you would want to take to help prepare you. You would want to take, hort of forestry classes, soil classes, science classes like biology and chemistry. Once you have a degree in this field, you can really do any thing you want. You can work out in the field and be hands on you can work in the office and do the business management part of if, or you can work in a lab; it all depends on your interest and how you like working.
