There are many different ways to shear sheep, all around the world people have come up with their own style and patters of shearing some come and go, they either stay into style or narrower gear went out of style when wide gear came legal in Australia in 1984.
The latest shearing takes advantage of the newer wide gear by safer and improved positions and blow placement to ensure workplace strain injuries are avoided at all possible ways, and working life is extended by recommending the wide shear gear rather than the narrow gear.
Something very important about sheep shearing when it's for market lambs is a lot of shows require you to slick shear your sheep before showing. Slick shearing is where the fleece is required to be no longer than one-fourth inch and uniform in length over the entire body. The main reason for slick sheering for market lambs is to place emphasis on confirmation on the lamb. Slick sheering is more than for judging but for the public eyes, even though people usually shouldn't buy just for looks people usually will go after a prettier well kept lamb rather than a raggedy dirty one.
